OH..Milky Way!

The milky way came from her milk-like appearance. There is a Greek poem describing the galaxy as "a shiny circle, called by people milk." For the Greeks, the galaxy was the "Milky Band" for the Romans, "The Way of Milk." In Greek, "gala" means milk, hence the word galaxy. Different cultures had different names for our galaxy like "celestial river" or "celestial path or path."
