What is a Blood Moon?
A blood moon refers to the reddish hue that the moon takes on during a total lunar eclipse. This occurs when the Earth passes directly between the sun and the moon, blocking sunlight from reaching the moon.
Why Does it Appear Red?
Te red color is due to Rayleigh scattering, the same effect that causes sunsets to appear red. As sunlight passes through the Earth's atmosphere, shorter blue wavelengths are scattered out, while the longer red wavelengths are bent towards the moon.
